Welcome to this very little space of Portuguese culture. If you’re here looking for proverbs in Portuguese, then you’re in the right place. According to Wikipedia

A proverb (from Latin: proverbium) is a simple and concrete saying, popularly known and repeated, that expresses a truth based on common sense or the practical experience of humanity. They are often metaphorical. A proverb that describes a basic rule of conduct may also be known as a maxim.

For the time being, we just hold in our database proverbs from Portugal which, as logically should be, are common to the other countries speaking the Portuguese language. Any contribution to this database will be welcome from PALOP (Portuguese-speaking African countries) or CPLP (Community of Portuguese Language Countries) citizens who dearly may wish to increment this database in quality as much as in quantity.

Source of these proverbs was “Dicionário de Provérbios Portugueses”, ed. Texto Editora, 1st edition (c) 1999.
